Logline
When a medical crisis threatens his family, a Mississippi father consumed by racial hatred must choose between the prejudice that has defined his life and accepting a lifesaving heart from a donor he cannot bring himself to accept.
Synopsis
In a small Mississippi town, John Stubbs is determined to raise his son, Eddie, in his image—hard, proud, and deeply rooted in hate. But Margaret, John’s wife, quietly works to steer Eddie toward a better way, one shaped by kindness and truth.
When a medical crisis strikes, the family is forced into a life-or-death decision that tests everything they believe. Their only hope lies in an unexpected offer—a heart from a donor John cannot accept.
Suddenly, the hatred John has spent a lifetime teaching is no longer an abstract belief. It has a price.
John must confront a choice that reaches beyond race and prejudice to the very meaning of family: hold on to the hatred that has defined him, or accept the gift that could save the person he loves.
A Heart in the Hand is a drama about family, race, prejudice, and the choices that define us when the heart on the line isn't just the one that beats.
A feature film project based on the novel by Raymond A. Phillips.
